German international Angie Geschke (VfL Oldenburg) and 2007 Men’s World Champion Johannes Bitter (TVB Stuttgart) will support the IHF Women’s World Championship group at Oldenburg as official ambassadors. On Monday, both handball professionals were presented in a press conference in Oldenburg’s World Championship venue EWE Arena.
“I feel honoured and will do everything to inspire as many people as possible to attend the group matches in Oldenburg,” 85 times German international Geschke said, who has good chances to be part of the German team at the event (1 to 17 December).
Geschke (32) expects a highly attractive group in Oldenburg, her favourite is Olympic champion Russia, though other top nations like Denmark and Montenegro are part of this group too.
Bitter (35), who was born close to Oldenburg before joining top club sides such as Hamburg, Magdeburg or Stuttgart, even talks about “a bombastic group at Oldenburg, maybe the strongest of all four. The World Championship will be an impressive lighthouse for the whole region. I hope that the event can motivate kids to play handball after attending the matches.”
