France, Denmark and Netherlands book their tickets for Germany 2017

The field of participants for the IHF Women’s World Championship 2017 in Germany is getting shaped more and more: After host Germany and defending champion Norway the next three European teams are confirmed, after Angola, Tunisia and Cameroon had clinched their berth as African representatives. Thanks to their qualification for Friday’s semi-finals at the EHF EURO in Sweden, France (facing already qualified Norwegian side in their semi) plus Netherlands and Denmark, who duel for the first place in the final before, have booked their tickets for Germany 2017.

The remaining nine European spots will be determined in play-offs, the draw event for those pairings will be held on Saturday at the EURO final venue in Gothenburg, right before the OC of Germany 2017 will their event to international media. Sweden, Serbia, Spain, Slovenia, Montenegro, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania and Russia are part of pot 1, while Poland, Croatia, Austria, Belarus, Fyr Macedonia, Italy, Ukraine, Slovakia and Turkey are in pot 2. Those European play-offs will be carried out in June 2017, right before the Germany 2017 draw event, staged in Hamburg on 27 June. Besides, qualification tournaments in Asia and Pan America will be held until June 2017.

The venues for the Germany 2017 preliminary round are Leipzig (hosting Germany), Bietigheim-Bissingen (hosting Norway), Oldenburg (hosting Denmark) and Trier (hosting France). Eighth-finals quarter-finals and the President’s Cup will be played at Leipzig and Magdeburg the final weekend will take place at Hamburg.
